Surveyor

A Surveyors responsibility is to make precise documents on properties. They conduct land survey physically to provide data on shape and contour of the property. Besides that, a Surveyor provides data on land shape, gravitation, elevation or dimension and features of a land. This survey data is generally helpful for engineering, mapmaking, mining, land evacuation, construction and other purposes.

1.Conducting physical site survey to prepare site documents, key notes and sketches
2.Preparing plots, location maps and reports
3.Recording the survey and verifying the data accuracy including measurement and calculations conducted at survey
4.Researching land records, survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence and land titles
5.Measuring distance and angles to determine property boundaries
6.Presenting entire survey reports including boundary disputes to clients and government agencies
7.Marking and documenting the location of legal property using measurement equipment

The career growth varies from organization to organization. Initially you will join as a trainee. After getting few years or experience you can become Senior Surveyor or Contract Manager or Head of Contracts.

Technical skills

One should have sound knowledge on AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble GPS.

Communication Skills

Surveyors provide clear and concise information to team members. They have to communicate with clients and follow the government, construction manager and architect instruction as well.

Time Management Skills

This is one of the most important skills for this job. Surveyors have to work by themselves or with their teams. They have to plan their physical travel to multiple sites. Since physically surveys may take time, time management is important for this job.

The average starting salary is Rs. 2,00,000 to Rs. 4,00,000 per annum.

To get into this profession, one should have a bachelor's degree in surveying or civil engineering or forestry. If one does not have survey as his/her specialization, then one can get training from a good institute.
