A Gas Plant Operator observes and controls the storage and distribution of natural gases for utility companies. As a Gas Plant Operator, one needs to process oil or gas for variety of customers through the operation of complex processing machine. A Gas Plant Operator, should have complete control on the functions of a gas plant.

1.Handling or operating natural gas instruments
2.Controlling compressors, scrubbers, evaporators and refrigeration equipment to liquefied natural gas
3.Finding abnormal pressure variance in equipments and recommending action plan for relieve overloading through pipe installation.
4.Monitoring and ensuring the safety of equipment and personal on site
5.Calculating gas ratios
6.Compiling operation records and test results of temperature, pressures, concentration, vacuum and flow rates
7.Establishing safe operating perimeters and determining when system upgrade required

Initially you will join as a trainee in Gas Plant Operation, but once you gain some experience you can become Operator, eventually progressing to Gas Plant Operation Officer or Manager.

Problem solving skills

As a Gas Plant Operator, one should be good in complex problem solving. Determining the causes of operating errors in equipment and resolving or repairing those, is a key responsibility in this job.

Listening Skills

A Gas Plant Operator should record the operation or production data and listen to the results, and understand whether all the equipments are working fine or not.

Observation or Monitoring Skills

A Gas Plant Operator should monitor equipment operation to ensure the proper functioning and diagnose if any equipment malfunction if required.

The average salary of a Gas Plant Operator is Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 2,20,000 per annum.

A minimum high school diploma is required but education from a technical or vocational school can make someone more competitive for this position.
