A floral designer basically deals with design and arrangement of flowers and other greeneries. As a floral designer, one needs to decide which shape or size of flowers or greeneries to be used for better displaying. Floral activities typically take place on various occasions such as weddings, baby showers, funerals and anniversaries.

1.Discussing with clients on price, date, time, place and the type of arrangement desired
2.Discussing with clients on caring, maintaining and handling of various flowers and indoor plants or leafs
3.Decorating buildings, halls, lodges, offices or other facilities for parties, weddings and other occasions with flowers and other plants
4.Selecting flowers, plants or leafs for decoration and arranging them according to clients requirements
5.Purchasing flowers or plants from wholesalers or suppliers.

Initially you will join as a trainee, but once you gain some experience you can handle clients individually. After experience of a few years, one can run their own business.

Creativity

As a floral designer, imagination and creativity is critical. Planning the design according to client requirement - budget, place, extravagance - is most important!

Communication Skills

Communication is critical for this job, since you have to discuss with clients and suppliers for each requirement. You have to explain to clients about the best possible ways to decorate a place.

Time Management Skills

Floral design for an event is like event management itself. It is time-bound, and requires co-ordination with multiple people client, suppliers, decorators, staff at the venue. Delivering as per deadline is critical because client satisfaction is most important,

The average starting salary of a floral designer is Rs. 7,000 to 15,000 monthly. With experience, one can also start their own floral design business.

There is no special qualification required but diploma or certificate course in floral design may help in better understand the technique and processes for arranging and displaying.
