Business Development Manager

A Business Development Manager is responsible to grow the companys sales, revenue and competitive advantages. As a business development manager, your responsibility will be to help the company secure new business in the form of new clients and/ or customers. You will build partnerships and business relationships with other companies, vendors or individuals to add value to your company. You will be majorly in charge of sales and work closely with marketing. Strategic planning and customer service also play a role, hence, your role would be quite diverse. As a business development manager, you will closely work with the marketing manager, product manager or external partners.

2.Building and maintaining relationships with clients
3.Developing a good sales strategy
4.Negotiating and developing contracts or deals
5.Planning for marketing and promotion, including advertising, review media, specials sales
6.Conducting training for business development executives
7.Achieving the desired sales & profitability for the company

You should have a minimum bachelors degree or masters degree in any discipline.

Client Management:
This is a critical skill required for this role. You should be good at managing and improving relationships with clients and constantly maintain a positive working relationship.

Communication skills:
Communication skills play a role in effectively informing the customers about the product or service that you are selling. Communication skills include speaking as well as listening skills. It is important that you also listen to customers, their issues, and suggest solutions to solve their issues.

Technical Skills/ Product Knowledge:
It is important to know the product or service that you are selling. Selling to customers becomes a lot more effective and easier then. Some technical skills like MS Powerpoint, Excel, etc. are also helpful since you might be required to prepare and deliver presentations to clients.

Thinking Skills:
Creative thinking is one of the most important skills for this role, because you have to generate and develop new ways of selling. It is also important to constantly think on your feet since quick answers will need to be given to customers for unforeseen questions.

Average salary would be between Rs. 15,000 to 40,000 per month, besides that, you can also earn incentives.

Growth in this role is quite fast, but it requires lot of hard work. As you gain experience you will become Sr. Business Development Manager then Head of the Business Division.
