Editor

An editor works behind the scenes to make what people see really worth their time. During the shooting of a film or commercial or show, there is usually a lot of stuff which is shot by the director. This can run into hours and hours of raw footage. It is the job of the editor to go through all of this, and come up with a final product which the viewers will want to see.
Editors typically work during post-production, which means that their role comes into the picture once everything has been shot.

1.Understanding the purpose and message of what the director wants
2.Combining and reviewing all the raw footage that has been shot
3.Editing the relevant parts, and then combining it together to ensure that the message and purpose of the visual is intact
4.Ensure that the final product is tight and impactful, and worth the viewers' time

One will start at an entry level position, typically doing errands and watching the main editors work. Keen observation will get you a junior editor's job. With exposure and experience, one can become an editor. One can also become a director or enter an associate line of film-making in future.

Detail oriented

Since everything has to be viewed by the editor, the editor must take note of all minute details. The editor is like the final gatekeeper, and anything passed by the editor almost directly goes to the viewers.

Teamwork

The editor has to work very closely with the director to understand the vision of the director, and come up with the final product. The editor also has to work closely with the rest of the post production team, which could involve the dubbing team and the sound team.

Ability to work with deadlines

There will be tight deadlines for the editor, since there is a cost involved while making the film, commercial or music video. The faster the edit

Starting salary can be quite low, since this is an experience based field. Salary could start from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 15,000 per month. After displaying commitment and excellence in this field, there is huge potential to earn a lot of money. One can also freelance.

There is no specific requirement, but a degree in film-making or editing or associated field is helpful. Experience is necessary in this field to become a good editor.
