Network and Computer Systems Administrator

Network and computer systems administrators are responsible for maintaining the network connections. A large part of our work currently depends on networking, and while this work may not be the most visible, it is highly impactful in todays world.
The Administrators ensure that networks are able to support work, they are fast and efficient, and have sufficient security measures in place.

1.Maintenance and management of computer networks
2.Data management and ensuring recovery of data
3.Troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring speedy resolution
4.Monitoring performance of networks and computers
5.Ensuring sufficient security of email systems and other network dependent applications

To progress in this field, one will need sufficient knowledge and experience. Knowledge of data management softwares (Hadoop, MongoDB), Network monitoring software (Nagios), Operating System Software (Windows, Ubuntu), and Web platform development software (Djando, HTML) are important.
To become an administrator, one will need to have sufficient experience of dealing with and managing people.

Analytical skills

Networks have to be constantly improved. The Administrator will have to study the network systems in place, and suggest strong improvements. This will require strong analytical skills, and a logical mind.

Managing pressure

There will always be tight deadlines to ensure resolutions. Every minute that the network is not working or a user is not able to perform work, is time and money lost. Resolutions need to be quick and accurate.

Critical thinking

Decision making needs to be quick. Judgement has to be precise. The Administrator will have take strong calls, and ensure that the team performs as per plan.

The average salary is Rs. 30,000 to 60,000 per month, depending on the education qualification and/ or experience.

One can become a Network and Computer Systems Administrator with a Graduate degree in a related field, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
