The Cashier job role is largely an entry level, but they typically get a good understanding of the retail set-up and can progress if they do well. They are mostly stationed at the exit of the store, once the customer has purchased all the goods, and ensures that the products are scanned, and that the billing and payment is done correctly.

4.Doing the billing for the customer, and handling the payment by card or cash
5.Managing cash properly
6.Ensuring that the cash amount is tallied daily, weekly and monthly

The cashier can progress to becoming a Sales Associate in a store, and thereafter a Senior Sales Associate. Upon good performance, the cashier can also become the Team Lead and Store Manager.
The cashier will be dealing with customers constantly, and must enjoy interacting with people.
The cashier will handle multiple tasks at the same time - scanning, checking amount, packaging - and will be required to be good at multi-tasking.
Since the cashier deals with customers, communication skills are important. It will also be important while dealing with the rest of the team at the store.
Salary for a Cashier will be between Rs. 90,000 to 1,40,000 per annum.
A cashier needs to be minimum 10th pass. However, 12th pass is usually preferable.Since the cashier will be dealing with cash, honesty is critical in this job.
