Biomedical Engineer

Biomedical Engineers, also referred to as Biomedics, are researchers, developers, designers of technology to assist healthcare. They implement new technologies of engineering and computer-facilitated operations to treat patients. They work with Doctors, physicians, surgeons, etc., to assist biological bodies with engineering. The specialty areas within the Biomedical engineering are Bioinstrumentation, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Clinical Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, Systems Physiology, etc.

1.Designing biomedical equipment such as artificial organs, replacement for body parts and machines for diagnosing health issues from various corner.
2.Installing, maintaining, repairing and providing technical support for Biomedical Systems.
3.Evaluating the safety and efficiency of biomedical equipment.
4.Training people on proper usage of biomedical equipment.
5.Preparing procedures, writing technical reports and providing recommendations on functionality.
6.Designing software used in health care services.

Biomedical engineers typically need a bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering or Biotechnology. You will also be eligible to become a biomedical engineer, in case you have a bachelors degree in electronics engineering or mechanical engineering.

Analytical Skills:
Biomedical Engineers must analyze the needs of people to design customized solutions.

Math Skills:
Biomedics use calculus and other topics of Math and Statistics for designing, analyzing and troubleshooting their work.

Problem-Solving Skills:
Problem solving skills are required to deal with and solve problems in complex biological environments.

The average salary of a biomedical engineer at the entry level is 2 lakhs to 3 lakhs per annum. Within 3-4 years of experience and further education, the salary may be in the range of 4 lakhs to 9 lakhs annum.

The career growth is vary, after working as a biomedical engineer, you can become clinical engineer of medical device or clinical trial manager of research.
