Accountant

An accountant's work is to keep the records of banking transactions. All money received and paid by the organization or individual, and maintaining the accounting books in a systematic manner.

1. Accountant responsibilities is to prepare assets, liabilities, capital account entries by compiling and analyzing the records properly
2. Documentation of all financial transactions
3. Accountant should keep records of financial statements, Income statements and Balance sheet for the financial year
4. They maintain accounting control by preparing and recommending procedures and policies
5. They co-ordinate with clerical staff to guide them
6. They keep financial information confidential so that customer confidence is maintained
7. They maintain financial security through internal controls

To become an accountant, you need to pursue a bachelor's degree related to accounts. Masters degree is not essential but it depends on the desired role for which one is aspiring. One can choose Diploma courses in accounting as well to further their knowledge.

Organizational Skills:
Organizational skills are essential for an accountant to manage a lot of responsibility. These skills make them competent and reliable.

Time Management skills:
Time management is essential to make the workload effective and manage competing priorities.

Communication Skills:
The ability of accountants to communicate with their sub-ordinates and clerks will show their competency and efficiency in planning things.

Leadership Skills:
Accountants are required to train the candidates and become mentors for which these skills are necessary. These skills include strategic thinking and long-term planning as well.

The average salary for an Accountant at basic level is Rs 15,000-20,000 per month. The average pay for an Accountant after attaining 3-4 years of experience will approximately be around Rs 30,000-35,000 per month.

There are plenty of opportunities for accountants in both the public and private sectors. One can start their careers as staff accountants and progress to senior accountants. If additional courses like Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), etc., are pursued, they can become Accounting Managers and can become Chief Financial Officers.
