Learning & Development (HR)

Learning and Development manager is a person who is responsible for the advancement of employees' skills and knowledge. They are responsible for creation and delivery of bespoke training programmes which are designed for leadership, management, business and personal progression. The intention is to expand on the skills and knowledge for employees at all levels within the organisation.

1. Creating training programs which are aligned with the objectives of the organisation

2. Working as a team with other leaders of various departments across the organisation and knowing their requirements for training

3. Evaluating individualss and organisational development needs

4. Adopting various styles of training techniques such as e-learning, tutorial sessions, coaching, etc.

5. Monitoring the success of development plans and helping employees to make the most of learning opportunities

6. Building connections with third party training providers

7. Tracking Budgets and Negotiating contracts

Learning and Development managers typically require a Bachelors Degree. There is no specific degree required but a degree in Human Resources or Education usually helps.

One can start their careers as trainers or facilitators and get into L&D after a few years of experience.

Communication Skills:
L&D managers should have good oratory skills for the successful delivery of training modules.

Organisational Skills:
Should have good organisational techniques in order to co-ordinate with other team leaders and members.

Problem Solving Skills:
Problem solving skills are required to understand business objectives and challenges, and how development of people can lead to business and people growth.

Resource Management Skills:
These skills are required to manage the budgets and human resources team, to ensure the training and development program is executed as per plan.

The pay scale depends upon the education, experience, location and industry. For Graduates who are freshers, the salary would be approximately Rs. 20,000 per month. After gaining experience of 3-4 years, one can expect a salary would be upwards of Rs. 40,000 per month.

Growth in L&D department is steady. With experience and knowledge, one can become an L&D manager, L&D Head, Talent Acquisition Head, and HR Head.
